We survived again.
The assignment this time was:
Theme: ESP
Prop: A doll
Action – Shaking Hands.
A quartet of regulars: Neil Bennett, Eric Myles, Rob Paul and Patrick Williamson. A fifth player, musician Chris Pauley worked offsite composing pieces based on the script and then tailored to the rough and final cut of the film.
Eric and Rob wrote the script, something a little off the beaten path for the regular “comedies” 416film makes. Pat and Neil filled out the two acting roles while Rob and Eric worked behind the scenes.

The weather, although bleak and mildly snowy actually provided a great somber look to the film.
A little less hectic and rushed than some of our previous films we still were tweaking up towards the midnight deadline and uploaded in the last hour of the contest.
That’s right…despite saying several times, “This one is the last one we are doing!”, we have decided to tackle the 100 Hour Film Project again.
We are putting together our team. We have a couple of regulars like Pat Williamson and Neil Bennett hooking their star to our little red wagon, but in theory we may have a few newcomers to the group as well to help either shoulder some of the burden or dive into the abyss with us.
A friend of ours has been working on a website and a series of Trumposaurus videos. (Check them out)
He asked for a little help so we got Lazlo Bienkila out of the grave (apparently he was long dead, the result of a Zamboni incident) and got him to direct the two shorts (The Poopular Vote & Voting Season) below: There’s supposed to be more coming but hey, give Lazlo a break, he’s been mostly dead for over a decade…it isn’t easy getting back into the directorial seat for a corpse.
In December of 2013 Eric and I decided to take another run at the 100 hour film racing competition.
Our theme was renewal, our prop was ice and the action was someone checking the time.
With Pat and Neil back as cast members and Pat lending an extremely helpful hand building the costume for Notlob we made a fun, weird, 5 minute short flick.
Now we find out we are still in the competition as the judges at filmracing.com have placed Notlob in the top 20.

Got a nice little email this morning from the folks over at SoCal Film Fest 2012.
Apparently our screenplay for Snuffed made it to the final round of judging, so we are at least an official selection and a top ten finalist in the feature film screenplay competition.
I’ll update the site when we get told we are beaten by The McSatans, because seriously, how awesome is that title?
The following day we wrapped the final opening and exterior scenes with Neil in hobo mode before relocating down to our Hock Shop location cheerfully open and donated by the Hock N’ Shop on Queen Street East (plug, plug).
Friend and first time 416er Stacey Iseman joined the crew and wrapped our shoot weekend within an hour and a half. Hit the marks and hit the lines.
We still have a few scenes to shoot, some effects to do.
So…with our track record…somethin to peruse by 2015.
A week away from shooting.
Locations nailed down and after a possible slight rewrite of the short we might be ready to go on our latest 416filmPenny Saved.
Spent a couple hours with Eric Myles, Pamela Tophen and Pat Williamson hitting the ever reliable Value Village for our costumes. Pat in his always charming way managed to get us a 15% Canada Day discount on our clothing. Then we briefly perused the pawn shop location (Shameless Promotion: The Hock N Shop at 1608 Queen St. E, be nice to them) and perused the outdoor site where our homeless characters reside. The location is under construction but with some possible minor changes to the script we plan to go ahead with our shoot next weekend.
Normally we just go straight to the internet but we figured we are going to give this short a little run at some of the festivals out there.
I hope to have some good news over the coming weeks regarding this..with each acceptance I’ll update this post.
So if the post isn’t updated you can just imagine how happy I will be…
We will also be drudging up Book Club and Get A Life for a few festivals…so right now it’s just paperwork and dvd burning time.
We had a plan and have managed to avoid following almost every single step of it.
Eric, Sandy (joining us as cinematographer for the first time) and I wandered out to scout some possible locations for this shoot.
UPDATE: Since scouting this location we have discovered it is now under construction…however, we figure we can work around it and get the shots we need, so fingers crossed and wish us luck!
Eric and I realized we are not going to be shooting Snuffed in 2012 as we had hoped…so we decided, what the hell, let’s submit this little raunchy nasty script to a couple of feature film screenplay contests.
So far, the news hasn’t been horrible…in fact, considering the subject matter…we seem to be doing ok.
2012 Rising Star Screenplay Competition
We received Honourable Mention in a Table Read contest and just yesterday received 1 of 10 Rising Star awards in the Feature Screenplay competition out in Vancouver.
There’s still 3 or 4 more screenplay contests to go so hopefully we find someone who really just loves this thing to bits like we do.
