Fake News! Music Video for the Buzz Kings is Live

fn_2020_subway_stillAfter several…several… several months of picking it up and putting it down we are very pleased to announce the music video for Fake News by Buzz Kings is completed.
Live action footage was shot back in June and animation took place mainly over 2019.

magrittes“Fake News” is the first single from the bands upcoming CD TruthLies. The song takes a look at the divisive political times in which we live, and how the 24 hour news cycle amplifies that division.

“Social media and the internet have had a huge effect on the business of news,” says songwriter and guitarist Paul French. “Now that anyone with a blog or a Twitter account thinks that they can call themselves a journalist, it’s become a challenge to know who to believe.”

Tone Death – a 48 Hour Film Musical

416film_tone_death_movie_poster_8x12_11022019_rp
In October 416film participated in the 10th annual Toronto 48 Hour film contest and after doing so many of these we finally landed the dreaded “Musical” genre.

Did we allow that to stop us? No!

Did we think about allowing it to stop us?

A little bit.

But with our motley crew of regulars including Patrick Williamson, Neil Bennett, Pamela Tophen and Paul French we added some completely new blood to the mix with Michael Obadia, Lisa Kennedy and Ibrahim Mohamed who all went above and beyond for this outing.

The film screened on Nov. 16 at the Revue theatre and played so much better than we could have expected.
So thanks to all who came out and thanks to those who worked so hard on this weird little film.

Time Juice screening – anytime you want!

416film Time Juice Poster
Our 24 hour film Time Juice screened at the  5th Annual Cobb International Film Festival (formerly the Marietta International Film Festival) on August 4. We came away empty handed but – something, something, honored to be nominated etc, etc.

Anyway, here is a link to the film if you have a few minutes to kill with some silliness…

Time Juice – A 24 Hour Hour Film Race Finalist

24 Hour Film Race Finalist Laurel

416film competed in the June 28/29 2019 film competition. Honestly, this one left us pretty drained. We were short one of our stand by  actors and it started at 10pm on Friday night and went until 10 pm on Saturday night. See…24 hours, and all in a row!

The criteria was it had to revolve around the theme of time travel, and at some point we had to use a prop of a grilled cheese and include the action and the action of holding a glass. As you can see below we totally nailed the grilled cheese sandwich part.

Anyway, long story even longer we were tired, drained and very shockingly cheerful to find out we landed in the top 15 films and will be screened during the 5th Annual Cobb International Film Festival (formerly the Marietta International Film Festival) on August 1-4 .

Knock, Knock You’re Dead!

416Film participated in the Toronto 48 Hour Film Contest yet again. Last year we had some very surprising success with our film The Pain Inside Diaz.

Sadly, for us at least, that after the initial screening we didn’t go onto bigger and better things…but despite that setback Eric created a more polished version this 48hour film and you can see it here!

The Pain Inside Diaz Wins Things with Stuff!

Now considering the events surrounding this film it’s amazing we picked up any awards and we are pretty chuffed about it. Originally we back out of the contest, then stayed in.

At the scripting stage one of the writers said this may be the stupidest thing 416film has ever written (it was Rob, who still thinks he might be right).

Then during the editing of the film, for the first time, thought we were not going to make the deadline. We dropped a couple of effects shots and skipped the colour correction and made it in on time.

And now, after 2 live screenings with almost capacity crowds who seemed to enjoy most of the antics in this short we also landed “Best Use of Prop” and “Best Choreography”. We are not exactly sure about the choreography award but it might have something to do with the stairwell shot.

Either way, The Pain Inside Diaz is now live and you can save yourself the price of admission and watch it above.

416film Screening at Bloor Hot Docs!

The 416film team was at it again in October, 2017.

We joined the Toronto 48 Hour Film Project competition and after 6 screenings with all the competitors, we still managed to eke out a spot in the “Best of Screening” taking place Nov. 18 at Bloor Hot Docs.

We snagged a theme that is near and dear to our hearts: Time Travel.

We also had to involve the following pre-requisites:

There’s a whole bevy of other contenders in The Best of Screening so come out and support local Toronto filmmakers!

And now we have Closure…

You can check out our latest short film Closure here:

Apparently Closure didn’t resonate with the judges at the 100 Hour Film Festival this year.

To be honest, while it is something that is not part of our regular film style I think overall the group was pretty pleased with the end result. Admittedly it’s a dark and moody little thing but we will send it out to a few film festivals and see if there is an audience for the film.
