The script is written.
Some miniature elements are partially completed.
There's still a long way to go.
Hopefully, Rob will update this thread as things happen.

Eric has forced my typing hands...

I am doing final construction touches on the main exteriors of the house for this short (which you can see as roughly assembled in the previous pictures). These are all pulled together from cardboard and good ol' plasteceine with puzzle sealant to give it a nice ol' shine.

I hope to have the fake drop of the city painted up by the weekend and then it will mainly be fake trees, mini tombstones and some painted interior sets on canvas...

I still have some mild rewrites to do on the narrative that accompanies all this but hope to have a bit more news/progress/pictures to report in a week or so.

Well you can reach me through the forum here, that's always a pretty good start...

I usually check this a couple of times a week so no big deal there.

I haven't spoken to Brian in a couple of weeks but I will send him a note today just to say hi.

btw - welcome to the forum.

Perhaps you need an extra pair of hands

Hi Craig:

Well first, let's say Eric and I are always welcome to have anyone assist who is seriously looking to make films, be it helping us or us helping them...

On the secondary side...It Came From Planet Earth is a completely original script (done in verse no less, not dialogue) written by me (with some suggestions of tweaks by Brian and Eric)...so, as I have never seen or read your script I can say this was not based on your script.

I can completely assure you, this unique little f/x laden comedy short is 85% me, 5% Eric and 10% Brian thus far, which should add up correctly I think to a 110%, math not being my strong suit.

From speaking with Brian, aside from appearances of say a zombie (s), a little girl and tea I would think our scripts have nothing in common...much like I would say my script has nothing in common with a scene featuring a serial killer, a little girl and tea (ala Con Air)...

If you want to meet with Eric, Brian and I sometime we could probably pull off both scripts (if and when we ever get It Came From Planet Earth in front of the cameras)...

But again, I am more than happy to have you join us, work with us, etc...

Thanks,
Rob

Like I said, we would be happy to meet with you and have you work on the production with us...

I don't think there is a miscommunication here, I just am not a fan of being told I stole a script or an idea...I'm not mad or anything just want to clear up any misconception.

Brian came to me with what he said was his idea, asked me if I can do anything that would include a scenario like that...so I wrote a wholly original script and came up with a unique way to shoot it, live action amongst handmade miniatures...

Like you say, (and I have said to others) this thing won't make a dime so no point bickering about it. But you should be careful how you phrase 'did you take my script' essentially... (and again take that up with Brian)...

I spoke to Brian, he says you are a good guy and all and I shouldn't take this personally, so I am not...but I want to make sure no one is thinking I am stealing ideas, storylines, etc. I would immediately drop this whole project and move onto something else if that was the case.

Why not give Brian a call, clear this up and then we can all meet at the next It Came From Planet Earth project meeting and we can move ahead?

Thanks,
Rob

Revisionist History in action. I don't think i said did you take my script though, but who cares. you have a script, you have it in production, and I would like to get involved.

I have nothing in production and need to get off my fat ass. Your doing...and I am sitting.

don't sweat it man...

I'll add you to our email group on this project and when we get together for the next meeting you can chime in and get your hands dirty when we shoot...

I expect it to be a good tough two day shoot really...and then a maddening amount of post-work which I am trying to learn when I have time with Eric showing me the ropes...

but seriously, we all want to be shooting and doing more so if you have some of your own shorts/scripts etc...keep in contact, meet up with us and we can all do some projects together.

What do you mean, “It's been 10 months since this project was started?” It's a SHORT film. There's no way it can be taking this long... Or could it?
Anyway... It's par for the course.

Cool thing is, there has been a big step forward. Rob and I have been shooting proof-of-concept tests, and we're quite thrilled with them. Check out this miniature shot with a 3D set extension tracked into the background.

We've also been doing tests tracking locked off shots of people on green screen into hand held “crane”shots of the miniatures. And we're liking what we see!
